Marty Aaron Bruce was once a canine deputy sheriff in Valdosta/Lowndes County, Georgia. He was forced to resign after repeated abusive conduct culminating in a civil rights lawsuit for assaulting an airman stationed at Moody Air Force Base.
To summarize, Marty Bruce worked security at a Valdosta bar where he was trying to put lame moves on a female employee. The airman needed to visit his vehicle to make a call and spoke briefly to the female. Marty Bruce flew into a jealous rage and threw the airman through the door and onto to the ground. Realizing his liability, Marty Bruce arrested and charged the airman with “pedestrian under the influence.” The problem: the airman was not drinking and was nowhere near a roadway.
At that time Marty Bruce was a canine handler. His dog’s name was Bart. Marty Bruce was romantically attached to my neighbor. He always drove his patrol vehicle (free gas, tires, brakes, etc). Bart was always outside in the unit. Winter, summer, always in the cruiser. I have never seen an animal treated that way. The dog was merely equipment. Moody Air Force Base allowed area canine handlers to use base grounds for exercises and training. Community scuttlebutt held that Marty Bruce was banned from the base for reckless driving.
Marty Bruce was also a binge drinker. Thanks to Georgia’s open-records laws, this is dash video of a drunken Marty Bruce (white polo, shorts, flops) trying to convince his Lieutenant Mark Terrell and then his Corporal Thomas Altman to arrest a resident.
The subtext of his statements is that, had he not forgotten his pistol, he would have opened fire! What a pussy.
In 2015 Marty Bruce was hired as a deputy sheriff in Hendry County, Florida. It appears that was later hired as a deputy sheriff in Hillsborough County, Florida.
It would not surprise me at all to hear accounts of shooting or assaulting citizens. I have plenty more to say, and any plaintiff’s attorney should feel free to contact me.
